Spider and Ghost Sugar Cookies!

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Sorry for how late this is! I know, it’s November and I am just now posting Halloween cookies!  I’ve just been a little lazy and have been putting it off! I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again! :)

Anyway, I made a lot of Halloween cookies just because it is such a fun holiday and you can do so much with it!  I just used the normal sugar cookie recipe and royal icing. Like I always do now. I just love it. These were fairly simple. Just a round cookie cutter for the spider ones. And of course, a ghost cutter for the ghost cookies.

When it came down to decorating the spider cookies, I had a lot of fun. You just make round circles in the white royal icing and use a toothpick to drag across to make the webs! Now, piping the spiders was a little difficult. But I did my best with it and I am pleased with them!

Now maybe I can start baking some Thanksgiving/fall cookies!

Jack O'Lantern Sugar Cookies
To get into the mood of Halloween, I decided to make some pumpkin cookies! I just did my normal sugar cookies with royal icing. I love making these. It is just so much fun decorating them! I know, eventually I will try something new. But for now, this is what I enjoy doing!

The recipe is just a simple sugar cookie one.

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 sticks salted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • Preheat oven to 350.

Combine the flour and baking powder, set aside. Cream the sugar and butter. Add the egg and extracts and mix. Gradually add the flour mixture and beat just until combined, scraping down the bowl, especially the bottom.

Roll onto a floured surface and cut into shapes. Place on parchment lined baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes. Let sit a few minutes on the sheet, then transfer to a cooling rack.

See, very simple! These cookies come out so soft and tasty too! I am really into baking Halloween cookies. There’s just so much that you can do. So many different characters to pick from!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yep, chocolate chip cookies. They have been done to death!

However, there is nothing better than a chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. You just can’t beat that.

Well, you could beat that with a warm brownie with melting vanilla ice cream. Why would you want to though?

I searched for a recipe that would make soft chocolate chip cookies.

When I was younger and I would make chocolate chip cookies you could use them as weapons.

No lie.

In fact, I think one time they were thrown at someone.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

I found just the recipe for a soft chocolate chip cookie over at Tasty Kitchen. And would you know it, it was called The Softest Chocolate Chip Cookies.

They weren’t lying. They really were soft. The next day they were soft too.

They didn’t make it to three days in our house so I couldn’t tell you if they were soft then. I bet they would be.

I didn’t help with the disappearance of the cookies though…

Okay fine, I might had a few. Just a few. We won’t talk about the amount of dough I ate either.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

They didn’t bake very thick but they weren’t paper thin. I loved them. This is definitely a good go to recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

I would make them again.

Oh yea, I used chunks instead of chips though. Mmmm chunks of chocolate.

Cupcake Cookies

I was the student when it came to these sugar cookies. Shaina had already made cookies with royal icing two times before. I wanted to try it with her and learn. I’ve always wanted to do it, but never got around to it!

These were a lot of fun to make. The worst part was cutting out the cupcakes because we had used a stencil Shaina hand drew. That was very time consuming.

Cupcake Cookies

Once the cutting, freezing, and baking was done, the decorating became a lot more fun. We had our own styles but quite similar.

Cupcake Cookies

Shaina made her cupcake “liners” adorable and fancy what with the ridges and the ‘folds’ of lines. I was jealous but decided to just do what I figured I wanted.

Cupcake Cookies

I just stuck to polka dots and marble on top. Some I put sprinkles like Shaina’s, most I didn’t.

We each did 6. We only made 12 cookies. We started at 10pm and ended around 1am. I was tired.

Cupcake Cookies

I still am…

Cupcake Cookies

I’m not as young as I used to be ya know.

I love how thick these cookies are. They just look so…beefy.

Want the recipe? It’s from Bake At 350.

Ingredients:

3 c unbleached, all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 c sugar (I use sugar that I’ve stored vanilla beans in)
2 sticks butter
1 egg
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp pure almond extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.

Pencil Sugar Cookie

It’s that time of the year again! The kiddies are all going back to school! To celebrate this time of the year, I decided to make some cute little pencil cookies for my brothers!  I found this neat little recipe over at Bake At 350 . What can I say? I absolutely love what she does!

When I was baking these, I forgot to take step by step pictures. :( These were pretty simple to make. I just have to work on making my hand steady! I didn’t have a pencil cutter, so once again, I just made a stencil.

So celebrate back to school and bake up a dozen or so of these cookies!
